Your video was probably fine. The packaging was not.
Most videos do not fail because the content is bad. They fail because nobody clicked. Why the title and thumbnail decide the outcome before anyone presses play.
Here is the uncomfortable part of running a channel. Most of your videos do not fail because they were bad. They fail because almost nobody clicked, so nobody ever found out.
YouTube shows your thumbnail to a small test audience first. If enough of them click, it shows it to more people. If they do not, the video quietly dies, usually within a day. That decision happens before a single person has watched a second of your edit. Which means the title and thumbnail are not the wrapping. They are the product, at the moment that matters most.
Package the idea before you make it
The mistake is to make the video first and figure out the title afterwards. By then you are stuck selling whatever you happened to film. We do it the other way. We decide the title and thumbnail first, because that is the promise, and then we make the video that keeps it.
If you cannot write a title that would make you click, the idea is not ready yet. Better to find that out before you spend two days editing it.
A good title creates a small gap
The clicks come from curiosity, not from information. "My review of the new update" tells people everything and gives them no reason to open it. "The update nobody asked for quietly broke the game" opens a small loop they want closed. Same video, very different click rate.
You are not lying to them. The video has to pay off the promise or retention falls apart. You are just leading with the part that makes someone curious instead of the part that sounds like a filename.
Test it on someone who is not you
You are too close to your own video to judge the thumbnail. Show it to someone who has not seen it and ask what they think it is about. If they get it wrong, or shrug, the packaging is not there yet. That five second test will save you more views than another hour in the timeline.
